While having communion locally with a group of people, the verse that was brought to the conversation was 1 Cor 11:27-29, taking communion in an unworthy manner.

If we are going to share the former concerns of Corinth from back in the day, then the greatness and thankfulness of what was done at the Last Supper should be included to round out the whole picture. I believe that this is where some churches have failed in their responsibilities.

Taking communion in an unworthy manner could be defined as not being thankful for His goodness and the wonderful things that Jesus did. Yes, it is a time for reflection on the things we may have improperly done and asking for forgiveness. However, instead of constant fault finding we should stop repenting for the mistakes of our old man and instead use the gifts God gave us when we moved into our new man.

It would go something like this;
God thank you for the gifts you have given me, and forgive me for not using them with the authority you freely gave me when I accepted you in my heart. My old man is buried but the new man is ready to go.
